Vintage charts give a ranking - for a given region - for each vintage (the year a wine's grapes were harvested). Wines from each region are evaluated by wine authorities and the scores are averaged into a score. Keep in mind that some good wines can be made in a bad year and some mediocre wines can be made in a great year. A lot depends on the skill of the winemaker.
