Orfila’s Recipe of the Month

ily is in town, the sun is setting earlier, the nights are getting cooler. You have the fireplace roaring, cheese and crackers are around the table, the sound of holiday music in the background and laughter from family and friends. All you need is a delicious drink to make it a perfect evening. Orfila has you covered with an amazing  cocktail for the holiday season. All you need is a bottle or two of Orfila’s 2008 Sparkling Moscato Bianco and a few simple ingredients and your evening will be complete! Below is the recipe for the Sparkleberry Holiday Cocktail courtesy of Orfila Team Member Tania Schmutz:



Serves: 10 adults 21+ years old
Preparation Time: 5 – 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes


1- 750ml bottle of Orfila’s 2008 Sparkling Moscato Bianco
2- 12 ounce bags fresh cranberries (1 cup for garnish)
1½ cups fresh squeezed orange juice
1 teaspoon orange zest
1 cup brown sugar
¼ cup granulated or raw sugar
Cocktail skewers for cranberry garnish


Over low heat, place 2 bags of fresh cranberries, orange juice, orange zest and brown sugar in a small sauce pot and simmer. Cook until cranberries are soft or burst (approx. 20 minutes). Remove from heat. Pass cranberry mixture through a strainer collecting the coulis in a bowl and discard the solids. Set coulis in refrigerator to cool.Once coulis has cooled, mix coulis with a chilled bottle of 2008 Sparkling Moscato Bianco into a large pitcher.


Position 3 – 4 cranberries on each cocktail skewer and set aside. Pour granulated or raw sugar in a shallow bowl. Slit a few cranberries lengthwise, half way. Put the slit piece on the rim of the glass and move the cranberry all around to moisten the rim of the glasses. Place the rim of the glass in the sugar. Pour your cocktail into the sugar rimmed glasses and finish the drinks with a cranberry skewer.
