Restaurant of the Month – Entwined Bistro and Wine Bar
Entwined Bistro & Wine Bar is Orfila’s “Restaurant of the Month” for December!
Opening their doors in September of this year, they are already a huge hit with the community. Entwined offers an eclectic mix of seasonal fresh ingredients to satisfy any palate served in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. They offer both lunch and dinner with a wide variety of items including a special “Living Room” menu offered in their comfortable lounge area. With 57 wines available and 36 beers, 7 of which are on draft, your glass will never go empty.
Owners Kristi McGee and Boyd Kerr were born and raised in Escondido and are long time friends. They both love food and people and wanted to make their livelihood their passion and decided to open Entwined Bistro & Wine Bar. Kristi took on the Management role and Boyd put his Chef skills to work. Growing up in Escondido since 1973, Boyd got his first insight into the restaurant industry at the Wine and Cheese Deli in the old Vineyard Shopping Center, where his family owned a clothing store. He washed dishes, sliced meats, and was generally happy to be around food, since he loved to eat. His first corporate food job was at the former Carlos Murphy’s at North County Fair, and he then helped David Cohn open T-Bird Diner in Escondido.
After graduating from The California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, he honed his skills at a variety of restaurants as a baker/pastry chef. He knew he wanted to be well-suited for all aspects of the kitchen, from sweet to savory.
He tried the Las Vegas hotel circuit, after which he decided he wanted to go in another direction and worked for Brinker International helping them open their Romano’s Macaroni Grill restaurants in the Las Vegas, California and Colorado markets.
Returning to San Diego, he found himself again partnered with David Cohn as his Corporate Chef for several years at the Cohn Restaurant Group, with his last project opening The Prado Restaurant in Balboa Park. He decided to expand his knowledge and was lured away from California to work for Bravo Development based out of Ohio and then the Landry’s Restaurant Group, where he ran 13 restaurants from New York to Miami, ending up at Peohe’s in Coronado. He then transitioned into consulting work and has now decided to get back to his roots by establishing this neighborhood eatery.
With Entwined Bistro, they hope to create a casual dining atmosphere highlighting food styles from around the world utilizing fresh, local ingredients from local vendors.
When asked what is it about the business that he likes, he replied, “I love pleasing people and making them happy through my expression of food. It satisfies me. I want every guest that comes to the restaurant to feel and know that they are incredibly important and I am passionate about making sure they have an unforgettable experience every time they dine”.
A few favorite menu items you MUST try: the Avocado Mango Tower with a chive-basil oil and either chicken, crab or tofu; the 10 oz Ginger Ale Pork Chop with an apple-ginger compote, rainbow chard and garlic smashed potatoes and finish it all off with the Nutter Butter Mud Pie with candied macadamia nuts and a caramel and chocolate brittle or the December special Eggnog Cheesecake.
