As we’ve shared, both Andrew & Christian have been busy at the vineyard putting their mark on what wines we’ve built our brand on by winemakers past and what they would like to create in the future.
Andrew gave us some insight as to what they are hoping to accomplish together as a team and we are very excited to see them bust a move. Here’s what Andrew had to share with us:
Our transition from Justin’s wine to my wines should be pretty seamless as our approach to viticulture and winemaking have a similar ethos, focusing our energy and resources on growing the highest quality fruit and letting that expression be the focal point in the wines created
The 2020 red wines that Justin fermented and are currently aging in barrels will be treated as if they were my own. I have done extensive tastings of the wines in barrel as well as previously bottled vintages of each wine to fully wrap my head around the nuances and expression of each varietal and blend to carry on and guide the 2020 reds through its natural evolution and craft blends that speak to their historical roots.
In the future, we hope to expand upon our current portfolio of wines, bringing a greater breathe/range to our white wine offerings as well as showcasing single vineyard/reserve level reds
My goal is to bring more sustainable farming practices to the vineyard by implementing strategies to encourage soil biodiversity by limiting use of harsh chemicals, planting rotating cover crops to focus on rebuilding soil nutrition
In the winery, I have a less is more, minimalist approach; utilizing native yeast for fermentation, minimizing additives that manipulate grape chemistry, conducting whole cluster fermentations (on appropriate varietals/vineyards /vintages), gentle extraction techniques and judicious use of oak, all of which emphasize a purity and sense of place in the resulting wines
Christian adds this great sense of enthusiasm and drive for discovery. He has sound winemaking experience/knowledge that brings value to the cellar as well as a creative curiosity which blends well with my love for experimentation and outside of the box style.
We are so excited to see what they do with our upcoming harvest. Stay tuned for more from Andrew & Christian!
